What days and times do you meet?
Between September and March we meet on Thursday afternoons from 4:30pm at Esmond Hogan Oval, Harrington.
How does Come and Try work?
Potential new members are allowed to come to two Thursday evening sessions to see how the afternoon is run and try some events before signing up.

How much does it cost to join?

Tiny Tots (born 2021 & 2020) - $100

Little Athletes and Junior Athletes: Age 6 to U20 - $125.

Active Kids Vouchers are welcome.

What will happen when I get there?
Athletes and family members are encouraged to come down to the shed on arrival (preferably around 4:15pm) for check in and to see if there are any important notices. At around 4:20pm warm up stretches and exercises will begin. This is important to avoid injuries and aches and pains. Promptly at 4:30pm athletes will line up in their age groups and will be ushered to their first event by their Age Manager.
What do I need to bring?
All athletes must have their uniform top with patches attached and suitable footwear such as sneakers or waffles in order to compete. We also recommend bringing a water bottle and wearing sunscreen. Other items that may be of use include a hat, insect repellent, a small towel (for sweat/mud), and a light snack.
What events does Harrinton Little Athletics run?
Each Thursday afternoon we run 4 events (3 events pre-daylight savings) which changes each week from a pre-determined roster based on the athletes age. Events that we offer include long jump, high jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, and javelin, Sprints (50m, 70m, 100m, 200m, 400m), pack start runs (500m, 700m, 800m), long distance runs (1500m, 3000m) and hurdles (60m, 80m, 200m) .
What are Zone Championships?
Zone Championships are a carnival that occurs over 2 days in November each year. They are the qualifying stage process to regional and state championships. All athletes from U7-U17 age groups are eligible to compete and the top 4 places in each event from ages U8 and up are invited to attend Regional Championships. Under 7 athletes in the top 3 places are awarded medals. The venue will change from year to year.
What zone is Harrington Little Athletics part of?
We fall under Region 1 - Mid North Coast Zone.
What about Regionals?
Regionals also occur across a weekend, usually in February and usually in Tamworth. Athletes who qualify will be competing against athletes from the Mid North Coast, New England and Northern River Zones.
How are points awarded?
The points are awarded as followed: 1 point for attendance at the meet 1 point for each event that is attempted 3 points for equal Personal Best 5 points for beating Personal Best 3 points for equaling a Centre Record 5 points for breaking a Centre Record Personal Bests are for the age group for the current season and are not carried over from season to season.
What is Presentation Day?
Throughout the year athletes accumulate points based on attendance, participation, personal bests and centre records. At the end of the season we host a fun evening at Club Harrington of dinner, dancing and the presentation of certificates, medals and trophies.
I want to volunteer. Who should I contact?
Harrington Little Athletics is wholly run by volunteers and greatly appreciate the support of all community members. There are numerous roles, so there is bound to be a way to contribute that aligns with your interests. You can contact any of the committee members at any time.
Will my child be taught the correct technique or have access to coaching?
Little Athletics NSW conducts coaching clinics at various venues and times throughout the season and we highly recommend the quality of these days. All local opportunities will be posted on Facebook Harrington Little Athletics also have volunteers who offer training sessions most Wednesdays for those who are interested. Limited skill development instruction is given on Thursday afternoons.
What happens if it rains?
A notice will be placed on our Facebook page if competition is cancelled due to wet weather. This will only generally happen if there has been an excessive amount of rain, if there are thunderstorms about or if the council has closed the field. We will endeavor to make a decision by 3pm on the day.
What level of ability does my child need to be to join?
Our emphasis is on fun, fitness and improving your personal best. Children can join with any level of skill or fitness and we are inclusive of athletes with disabilities. Children are given plenty of encouragement to improve and support in learning proper techniques.
Do we need special shoes?
Spikes can be worn from U11 upwards, in laned events (100m, 200m, 400m) long jump, high jump and triple jump. Spikes must be removed immediately after each event and carried with the athlete. Spike shoes are not however necessary and generally only 10-15% of athletes at our centre use them.
